Fix Windows Slowing Down on Right-Click Problem with ShellExView
Is your PC sometimes hanging up or becoming way too slow when your right-click on a file or folder? This problem could be due to a misbehaving shell extension. Many software create handlers (shell extensions) for right-click context menu in order to give you a single click access to their most used features. Many a times these in-process COM objects fail to do their job properly and must be removed to speed up your PC.
ShellExView is a handy little tool which displays all installed shell extensions and lets you enable or disable them. This free Windows utility shows all information pertaining to a shell extension such as it’s Type ( IE Toolbar, Explorer bar, Drop Handler, System, Shell Folder etc) Description, Version number, Product and Company info, associated file extensions, CLSID (unique identifier for a COM object), and the extension file size (in bytes).

ShellExView is available as both standalone and installer files. It’s other features include customization of the visible columns, an instantaneous HTML report of all or chosen extensions, exporting of selected items to TXT, HTML, XML and CSV files, opening of chosen CLSID in registry editor, filtering of extensions by their type, finding by keyword etc.
If you are a basic user and are not much aware of shell extensions, you may want to solve the right-click problems on your PC by trial and error. Choose ‘Mark Non-Microsoft Extensions’ from the Options menu to filter out those extensions which have been installed by external applications. Disable each of them one after the other to find the culprit. Advanced users can open and edit a selected shell extension’s registry key in Registry Editor by clicking ‘Open CLSID in RegEdit’ from the right click context menu.
ShellExView works with Windows XP/Vista/7 x32, x64.
