VLC Media player, the free and open source software from VideoLan has hit a major milestone with the 1.0.0 release. This release, codenamed “Goldeneye” includes not only with bug fixes, but some major enhancements. There is the newly added support for HD codecs like AES3, Dolby Digital Plus, TrueHD, Blu-Ray Linear PCM, Real Video 3.0 and 4.0 etc. Also some new input formats (Raw Dirac, M2TS etc.) are added in this version.

VLC is an open source media player that is popular for it’s cross-platform compatibility. It is independant of system codecs to support most video types which means it does not require you to download any codecs yourself.

The new version also has some advanced features like Live recording, Instant pausing, Finer speed controls and Frame-by-Frame support.
