Many times we find that some applications or programs are no longer running when we expect them to pop up with a keyboard shortcut or some other trigger. This could be because they have stopped running abruptly due to a clash with other software or have been terminated by malicious code.

This abrupt ending of programs or tasks may result in serious damage, especially if the application under consideration is a security software such as an Antivirus or Antispyware. Want to keep a watch on the tasks that are running on your system?

Task Listener is a very handy tool which notifies you whenever a task has stopped or started running. This Windows freeware lets you configure notification settings such as the task to look out for, frequency of checking (1,15,30 or 60 seconds), trigger (running/not running), action to be taken etc. You can make Task Listener to play a sound, popup a message, run a file or URL (along with giving a popup) etc when a selected task starts or stops.

Task Listener has a single window interface in which you can browse all running tasks, select the task to be monitored and hit Start listen to monitor that task. The Smart listen feature allows you to play a media file, the file path for which has to be given. Playing a sound also requires you to specify the path of the sound file.
Task Listener works with Windows XP/Vista/7 and is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
