Search Documents, Music, Wikipedia From Desktop Using InSight Desktop Search
If you have recently shifted to Windows 7 you might be wondering what happened to the search companion that you have become accustomed to in Windows XP. Windows 7 has a new feature called federated search which is now integrated into Windows Explorer and lets you search your desktop along with the internet.
However Windows in-built search is not so user-friendly and also does not give you any easy way to filter your search results.
Insight Desktop Search is an all-in-one search engine to find documents/files on your hard drive instantly. This free Windows program lets you search for files, folders, media, pictures, documents, and programs in a single click. The search results are shown in real time, as you start typing the keywords. Apart from searching your local hard drive, you can also search online content in Wikipedia.
After installation, you can choose the hard drives to be indexed on your computer. The indexing is fast. Once started, InSight sit’s on your desktop at the top and displays Date and Time. Hovering over it brings the application window including a search box and results list into view. InSight Desktop Search indexes music files by their ID3 tags such as artist, genre, year, album etc making your media search quick and easy.
Other features include built-in music player, a Quick Launch tab where you can drag and drop your favorite files, folders, programs or website URLs, display of file and program information including preview of images upon hovering over a search result.
InSight Desktop Search is a bit memory intensive taking up 23 MB of RAM. Still this feature-rich application is definitely worth a try, even for Windows Vista and Windows 7 users.
