In case you are using Windows 7 Ultimate, you may be aware of it’s BitLocker feature which lets you encrypt hard drives as well as USB Flash drives. Since not every one can afford the Ultimate edition of Windows 7, here is a freeware tool USB Safeguard which lets you encrypt and password protect your USB drive.

Choose the folders and files you want to secure and USB Safeguard will encrypt them using 256 bit AES encryption, one of the strongest encryption algorithms. Once the encrypted files are created, the original files can be erased permanently using it’s built in File Shredder.

This portable application can run from your USB Pen drive, so you do not need to install it on your PC. USB Safeguard includes a Safe Browsing option which lets you launch IE in private browsing mode, so you can do all your surfing without leaving any traces behind. It also features an on-screen keyboard for entering passwords securely in online forms.

Note: Depending on what Antivirus you are using on your PC, you may be warned that USB Safeguard is a Trojan file. This false positive is generated because the program has a feature that converts selected files into a self-extracting archive.
