Skype is a VoIP (voice over IP) application for PC users as well as select mobile phones that lets users make calls either for free or at cheap rates. Skype uses P2P (peer-to-peer) technology for connecting users on a voice or video call. A new version of Skype, Skype 4.1 is now available for download for Windows.

It offers several features, including SkypeOut which lets users call from Skype on their PC to regular and mobile phones worldwide, conference calling, call forwarding, Instant Messaging, SMS and secure file transferring. Skype calls can be secured by end-to-end encryption.

Skype 4.1 includes new features such as screen sharing for broadcasting/recording of your screen in a video call, sending a contact to other Skype users, searching contacts from Gmail, AOL, MSN, Yahoo, Microsoft Outlook and other service providers, integrated web toolbar for easy finding of phone numbers by highlighting them in contact lists, birthday reminders etc.

4.1 also has improved call and video quality as well as some accessibility features. Screen sharing has a limitation that you can’t simultaneously broadcast your own video along with your screen recording.
