CloudMagic – Search Gmail Inbox As You Type In Firefox, Chrome

Gmail’s built-in search just gives you a huge list of all mails containing the keywords. Filtering the search results and finding the right one you are looking for takes up time, especially if you receive tons of emails everyday. What if you could get a super fast ‘as you type search’ in Gmail, similar to Xobni for Outlook.

Firefox and Chrome users can now get immediate search results in their Gmail Inbox, thanks to a free browser extension, CloudMagic (IE users, move on and get a better browser :) ).

Go to CloudMagic downloads page and install the add-on for your system and browser. Currently it is available for Firefox and Chrome on Windows and Mac OSX.

After installation, restart your browser and log in to Gmail. You should now see the CloudMagic search box at the top right. Before you can go ahead and use it, you need to add your Gmail account information, including username and password. Don’t worry, this info is kept on your hard disk, similar to other mail clients such as Thunderbird or Outlook.

CloudMagic lets you add multiple Gmail accounts. For adding an account, click on the drop down menu of the search box and select ‘Manage Accounts’ to open the Accounts Management window.

Click on ‘Add New Account’ and enter your email id (without @gmail.com) and password. CloudMagic will then index all the emails in this account and show them up in the search results.

Searching is both fun and easy with CloudMagic. Just type in the words and hit Enter. You will see a list of contacts and mails relating to the search phrase. Clicking on a contact shows up yet another list of all emails with that contact.

The best part is that you don’t have to click your way into each mail, only to find that it’s not the one you were looking for, return back and do it all over again. Click on a email search result and you will be able to read the entire thread of emails in the scrolling panel to the left.

Click on ‘View entire thread’ at the top of the email thread to leave CloudMagic search and view the email.
